Meet the Executive Committee
Christine (Chris)
Over the many years I’ve been involved with the association, I’ve seen a great deal of change. What has always remained constant, though, is the sense of community across each site – people supporting one another, sharing knowledge, and helping each other along the way.
The association belongs to all of you, and with everyone’s continued support, we hope to see it keep growing and improving for years to come.
Stephen
Steve oversees the strategic development of SGAA, including digital systems for membership, shop operations and financial reporting to our treasurer. He is passionate about modernising the association while keeping community values at its heart.
Vicky
I’m the secretary for the SGAA, so I take minutes, send documents out and act as an email point of contact for any queries received. You might occasionally see me helping out in the shop too. I have two plots on Martinswood allotments which I use the no-dig method on. I enjoy growing perennials – walking onions and perennial kale so far (why make more work for yourself?!) – and slightly unusual crops – I’ve grown oca (a type of S. American tuber) in the past and will be trying achocha (a S. American climber that apparently can be treated like green peppers) this year. I’m also planning on having a small cutting garden this summer for flowers – I’m looking forward to enjoying them!
Lisa
I’ve been Show Secretary for the SGAA since 2025 and am a complete novice grower who first took on a plot in 2024. What started as one small patch of soil at Lawrence Avenue quickly turned into two plots as my enthusiasm grew! I’m best known for my towering sunflower displays, which have become a bit of a signature feature each season. I’m still learning every day, proving that you don’t need years of experience to dig in, get growing, and enjoy the rewards of allotment life as well as running the annual show.
Emma
Hi I’m Emma I’ve been allotmenting for 16 years now. I volunteer in the allotment shop most Saturdays and manage the facebook page for the SGAA. My favourite things to grow are chillies and tomatoes as there are so many different varieties to try each year. Hope to see you in the shop soon!
