SGAA Annual Show 2025 – What a Day!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to this year’s SGAA Annual Show at Lawrence Avenue. The marquee was buzzing with colour, conversation, and an incredible display of what our members (and their families) have been growing, making, and baking.

From perfectly straight runner beans to enormous marrows, beautifully arranged flowers, delicious jams and chutneys, and even some wonderfully peculiar vegetables — the standard this year was fantastic. The children’s classes were a particular delight, with creative crafts, bright posters, and imaginative flower spoons adding a real splash of fun.

Of course, no show would be complete without a bit of healthy competition. Congratulations to all of our class winners, as well as those who picked up rosettes and trophies. And a special mention goes to our novice growers, many of whom entered for the very first time — your efforts prove just how welcoming and supportive the allotment community can be.

The tombola, refreshments, and sunflower seed giveaway were also very popular, helping to make the day feel like a true community celebration.

Most importantly, the show wasn’t just about prizes — it was about sharing knowledge, swapping stories, and enjoying the company of fellow gardeners. Judging by the smiles, we think we achieved that.

We were honoured to welcome Kevin Bonavia MP (Stevenage), who joined us for the afternoon. He gave a heartfelt speech, expressing how proud he was to see the whole community come together to celebrate growing, sharing, and creativity. He also had the pleasure of presenting the awards to our winners, adding a touch of special recognition to their achievements. Kevin Bonavia has served as Stevenage’s MP since July 2024 and continues to be deeply committed to local initiatives like ours.

📸 Below are just a few of the highlights captured on the day — see if you can spot yourself (or your prize-winning entries!).

Thank you once again to everyone who contributed, volunteered, donated prizes, or simply came along to support. We’re already looking forward to making next year’s show even bigger and better! We’d very much encourage you to submit your feedback so that we can better shape events, build stronger teams, and a more vibrant community.
